We start the Yorkshire Terrier
The Yorkshire Terrier is a favorite of many dog fans. He is adored for the fact that he knows his own worth, but also devoted to his masters, is quite compact, and he needs very little space. It is interesting to play with him, and watching is a real pleasure, because the dog is cute and very graceful. As with any pet, the Yorkshire Terrier must be looked after. There are several rules on how to do it right. In principle, this breed is quite unpretentious. Yorks do not care where they live: in a luxury mansion or small apartment. The main thing is that there are good and beloved hosts nearby.
Since the breed itself is not large in size, there is a danger that you can not notice the pet and accidentally step on it, causing harm. There is another caveat: when you want to caress this cutie, you need to measure the strength, because the miniature doggie is too fragile. Due to these nuances, dog handlers do not recommend acquiring the Yorkshire Terrier if there are small children in the house. Particular care must be taken with puppies. They are the most vulnerable. If you drop a still fragile York, the consequences can be the most sad.
There are many advantages to the content of this breed, especially if the owners are very busy people. When such a terrier appeared in the house, you can prepare a tray for him, borrowing the latter from the cat. Puppies are usually easy to learn to use it. Owners buy special diapers for the toilet for York. All this will come in handy when there is frost or heavy rain on the street, as a result of which a small dog will not be able to walk and relieve his need. But to deprive at a different time of a fun and playful York of walks would be cruel, as he is very mobile and energetic.
Winter lasts relatively long, so you need to take the dog out for a walk, despite the cold. In this case, a warm cozy jumpsuit will help out, which will not allow the crumbs to freeze. We must not forget that because of the short legs, the dog’s body is located very close to the cooled ground. If the pet has to travel with the owner, you can buy a special bag.
Owners of the Yorkshire Terrier are required to care for his fur. It requires periodic attention and hygiene procedures. For combing, you will need a special special brush so that the wool does not get tangled, and also no tangles appear. In addition, time and desire are needed. If these procedures cause irritation, and they do not want to devote time, then it is better to get a dog of another breed.
Long hair requires a special approach, especially if the dog takes part in exhibitions. In this case, shampoos are especially necessary for such a coat so that it looks shiny and healthy. It will take a special oil to nourish the hair with the necessary substances.
There are a number of haircuts for Yorkshire Terriers, but only if the dog does not take part in exhibitions. The most typical haircut is when all the hair is trimmed on the underside of the tail, and a little under the abdomen. Wool in other areas can be of any length. The procedure should be repeated every three to four months.
The eyes of the pet must also be cared for constantly so that conjunctivitis does not occur. In York, dust and dirt often remain in the corners of the eyes, which must be removed on time. Of course, your hands should be clean and cotton swabs always prepared. You need to moisten them to wipe your eyes only in boiled warm water. You can also prepare a weak broth of chamomile or warm tea.
Wool on the face also requires care. Being too long, it gets into the eyes, so it needs to be combed periodically. The ears also should not be left without attention of the owners. In order to clean the ear canal, cotton buds are useful. But there is no need to show special zeal, because sulfur in small quantities protects the passage from getting into the pathogenic microorganisms. With special scissors, it will be necessary to remove the hair, if it is in the external auditory meatus, so that dangerous diseases, such as otitis, do not develop. The condition of the teeth must also be checked. Clean them gently with a brush so as not to damage the oral cavity.
When purchasing a dog, you must definitely ask if it has been vaccinated. All vaccinations must be done at the age of the puppy.
Yorkies are unpretentious in food, but their diet should be varied: meat, vegetables, cereals, cottage cheese. Sweet food is strictly forbidden to them, do not give fried and smoked food, lard and very fatty meat, as dogs also have liver diseases. It is not necessary to give bones that the terrier can crack, because sharp splinters, once in the stomach, can injure him. Ready-made feed Yorkies are very fond of. But they should not be the basis of nutrition, although they must be present in the diet so that important substances for health enter the body: calcium, iron, phosphorus and other elements.
